Athearn HO F59PHI (DCC+sound) problem?

Recntly i’ve noticed a problem with my 3/4 year old F59PHI. For some reason the locomotive doesn’t seem to reach the max speed it used to? I could just be imagining things but i do faintly suspect that the locomotive has slowed down a bit from when i first brought it. Any advice?

Have you played with any CVs? You might try resetting the engine to factory defaults to see if that clears up the problem.

I performed one last night, didn’t seem to fix the speed issue.

Has the locomotive been stored since the last time you operated it? Was the engine cold when you ran it recently? First thought is cold or migrated lubrication, which could cause your locomotive to work harder to achieve top speed.

The engine has been stored at room temperature 68-80F (on my train shelf) majority of its life. And i usually run it several times a week. I also lubricated/greased the gears back in September or October of last year, trying to see if that would solve the infamous Athearn growl (it didn’t). So i doubt the drivetrain is the culprit.
