Athearn HO scale bay-window caboose
This is a thorough and very useful review. However, saying that only the higher priced version comes “with lighting” oversimplifies the reality a little. This is from Athearn’s own announcement of these models:
"• Unlighted cabooses will have LEDS installed in marker lights and wires leading to interior of caboose.
"• Unlighted cabooses will not have interior lights included
“• Unlighted Caboose will also include trucks with electrical pick-ups”
Have on order one SP and one WP.

Just received mine today and could not wait to put it on my layout. It works great and is easy to program for DCC operation. It is a much better model than the old Athearn SP cabooses that I have. It was well worth the price to me.
Stephen … thanks for the information on the lighting. Seems to me that with a little effort and time you could light it and save yourself a few dollars.
I have been begging for a decent model of this caboose for years being an SP modeler - its encouraging to think they responded to all the requests. Bought two and impressed with detail and dcc lighting- no complaints!
I run in the dark.I alwasy know werethe end of train ,running DCC.,I adviod crashs .dave how much is ahour of your time/
Love the caboose, but it is the wrong scale available… Possible for N scale too! Have Athern SP cabooses but not as detailed or lighted. Would love at least 4 in N scale.

The review of the model is great, alot of detailed information and facts about the model. Very detailed model sharp crisp lettering and graphices. The price for lighted is a little high, (Rapido) had a nicely done model for around sixty dollars, with lighting, which was very nicely done, I might add, the rapido model had dual lighted markers on both ends, which could be turned off or on.
