Athearn HO scale RTR SW1000 diesel locomotive

I want one!

I just purchased the SW1000 and I have to say that I am totally impressed with the model. It runs very smooth and the details aer outstanding. I am also looking forward to the upcoming SW1500 as well. For the price it is a must have. Athearn has done it again.

ditto that, i had to get one decorated for burlington northern. runs like a atlas, looks brass quality. they seem to be selling like hotcakes.

This switcher is and excellent runner, had to adjust the speed control after putting the decorder in, it was to quick to start & stop. Has a great cab interior.

The spectacular details of an Athearn Genesis on a Ready-to-roll at the price of a Ready-to-roll. Runs beautifully. Great locomotive.

Great Looking Loco!! I’ll be looking bforwaRD to purchasing 1 or 2 of these!!!

Now if they would just go the extra mile and add ditch lights and a working rotory beacon!

Ditto above comments. No one has mentioned how beautifully these units MU. The knuckles just bounce with no pushing or pulling of the units. I will place two of the SW 1500’s in local service as well as switching. Superior job by Athearn. A very fine value for the money.

Any where I can get one?

It’s good to see Athearn putting more details into thier models, this switcher looks very impressive, Great job!

I am very pleased with the BN unit I have and have a second one on order. Runs smoothly but a little slow starting. Pulled about 20 cars on straight and level.

A very awsome model, but the Rio Grande units did not have MU hoses they did not MU thier units, but I want one anyway. Excellant as always.

Athearn has really seem to have stepped it up on all their engines since the GP40X’s. But the SW1000 was a Grand Slam.

JUST RECEIVED MY SOUTHERN SW 1500 RIVERBOAT RAMBLER OUTSTANDING JOB ATHEARN DETAIL IS EXOUISITE.

What roads are being offered?

I have the 141, but I will make a couple of critiques:
1, the Rio Grande SW1000s were not MU equipped.
2, the cab numbers are a tad on the thick side.
Now with those gripes out of the way…WOW! This has to be the best switcher Athearn has put out…very nicely detailed and VERY rail road specific. You’ll really want 1 or 6 depending on your budget!!

I have one and it looks great and run as good as it looks.

I HAVE BEEN LOOKING FOR AN SW1500 FOR THE ABC, PART OF W&LE. IF THERE IS A RIO GRANDE, IT CAN BECOME THE ABC. ABC IS THE AKRON, BARBERTON CLUSTER. THE IMAGES I HAVE OF THE SW1500, ABC SITTING AT THE BRITTAIN YARD, IN AKRON, LOOK VERY CLOSE TO THE SW1000, SEEN HERE.
ALSO, THE HIGH NOSE GP-35 IN A,C&Y IS NEEDED TO ROUND OUT W&LE.

I recently received 3 Athearn SW-1000’s a few weeks ago, CB&Q #9313, #9314, #9319. All 3 look magnificent!!! I’ve not yet had time to run them though, but I’m certainly looking forward to it! They’ve come a LONG way from their SW’s of the 1960’s & 1970’s!!! Great job Athearn!
