Athearn loco question

I have an Athearn SW 1500 diesel switcher. I recently tried to run it and as it runs it continually throws sparks.

I run other equipment on the same tracks and all operate fine.

I have cleaned tracks and wheels but this did no good.

The engine is a couple years old but hasn’t been used a lot.

Any ideas?

Athearn is not considered a “toy” train. This question will get a much better response in the Model Railroader forum.
