Athearn News Letter Offers Free F Series Catalog

Check out the offer on the Athearn news letter. Is it worth getting your name on a list???

Greetings, all!

GENESIS “F” Series Catalog

You’ve heard about our special Genesis “F” Series catalog by now. It’s a beauty, and we want you to have a copy. It’s easy to get one. Register your name and address (regular postal address) at: http://www.athearn.com/Publications/Subscribe.aspx.

And we’ll send you a copy of this great reference tool. It lists all of the Genesis “F” Units we have made to date, whether or not they’re available in stores. Now, some of them are pretty hard to find. But knowing what’s been made is useful information, we think.

Absolutly it is.

Some of your LHSs may have a few to give away if you check. The one thing to remember, as they noted, is that the catalog is a reference to what has been produced…and what may be produced in the future…but is not a listing of everything that is currently in stock.

I suppose they are free, I picked one up at the OKC train show last week and it was free. 20 color glossy pages of F series diesels Mike

  1. Athearn was bought out just a couple of years ago and is now owned by Horizon.

  2. Athearn no longer appears in the WALTHERS CATALOG.

  3. Walthers buys out LifeLike. P1K & P2K lines “symbolically” takes Athearn’s BB/RTR/Genesis place in the catalog.

  4. For 06-07 Walthers drops popular Catalog’s price down to what it cost nearly 30 years ago.

  5. Sales of the Catalog are reportedly excellent.

  6. Athearn no longer appears in the WALTHERS CATALOG.

  7. (To our benefit) Athearn engages in some creative strategy! Overall a smart move by Athearn[8D]

It does sound like an advertising strategy.

It still is amazing to me Horizon does not allow any other distributers to sell Athearn models. I was curious to know if Horizon sells Proto 2000 now that Walthers purchased that line.

I went ahead and ordered it. It never hurts to know what’s out there.

They’re not listed on Horizon’s web site . . . http://www.horizonhobby.com/

Yes they are. Click on Model Trains over on the right.

I looked and expanded the train brands on the Horizon web site to show all 41 brands, no Walthers, Life Like or Proto x000 listed. Searching for Life Like and Proto 2000 gives no results.

Really? Then what?

I clicked on “Model Trains”, then “View All Brands”. No Life-Like, no Walthers. Where did you find them?

Gee, I want one of those new 2007 Chevy Silverados - but the Ford place didn’t have any! Wonder why not?

Walthers does not sell Athearn.

Horizon does not sell Walthers.

Pathfinder,

Remember that Walthers and Horizon are competitors so it would seem unlikely their model railroad lines would appear in each others’ catalogs or web listings.

It is true about the automobile industry, but for thirty years or so, the Walthers catalog was the place to look up model railroad products available at a local shop. Off course, limited runs of Brass or other special runs were not listed, but for the most part, you could use the catalog to reference the industry.

Since Wathers and Horizon purchased the major companies that produce trains, the whole industry has changed and the resule is less competition to eliminate low prices. Athearn was always deep discounted since the major discounters in the east purchased directly from Athearn. The P2K line was always discounted and all of the low discounted prices have vanished.

I keep wondering if Atlas and Kato will sell out to the price eliminators.

For me, the days of purchasing P2K products is over since they are not such a great value compared to the old pricing. I did get the latest P2K Berkshires with sound, but they were the exception. i did find a dealer that sold them for $239 with sound so they were close to a bargain.

About my Ford/Chevy analogy above - sorry about that guys, I must’ve had an above-average amount of sarcasm stored up that day and it escaped.

Has anyone actually received this new F unit Catalog yet? I put my name on the “list” almost a month ago and have yet to see anything show up in the mailbox???

It gave me an error message when I tried it.

I was told some were given out at local hobby shops, but they did not send me one even after I registered.

Mabe I should email Athearn.

FYI, I ordered my catalog in early December when the electronic request info was posted. It arrived today. Of course, I happen to be near the source.

The Genesis F-unit catalogs come return addressed from Horizon in Champaign, but were bulkmailed from Springfield, Illinois. So others should be seeing their catalogs soon.
