I have some Athearn ready to run, passenger cars. They run OK. I was looking at the trucks, trying to figure how to add electrical pickup, for lights, and I noticed something. The truck mounting screw is not centered in the truck. They are six wheel trucks, but the mounting screw, or hole, is off center between the first and second axles, instead of over the middle axle. What is the reason for this?
Ordinarily mounting holes for 6 wheel trucks are off-centered to avoid the center axle interfering w/ the mounting screw, but since the Athearn trucks mount from inside the car body, I can’t imagine why, unles “that’s the way everybody else does it”.
Might also let the truck swing out more so it can take tighter corners?
