Athearn/Roundhouse

Is it my imagination or did Athearn obtain MDC-Roundhouse ? I have noticed Athearn’s newsletter containing MDC products and the MDCRoundhouse website is no longer functional.

Horizon acquired both of them, and restructured MDC so that it’s modern stuff now comes under the Athearn label, and the “Old Timer” (Pre-WWII by my reckoning) still falls under the Roundhouse label.

Welcome to the forum!!

Strictly speaking, both companie were acquired by Horizon. Athearn first and then Roundhouse some months later. The result of this is that the Roundhouse tooling was moved to the Athearn facility in CA. I was speaking with a Hobby shop owner the other day and he indicated that there had been a press release from Horizon indicating that the Roundhouse brand name had undergone a significant image change and would be focused on Pre WW2 ready to roll items. The Athearn brand is to be WW2 and later. So we should be seeing former Roundhouse product appear under the Athearn brand name and visa versa

No doubt more will be revealed on the new web site http://www.roundhousetrains.com/ when and if it gets any content!
