ATHEARN SD40 CLINCHFIELD DECODER

HI I RECENTLY PURCHASED AN ATHEARN SD40 CLINCHFIELD RTR WITH A QUICK PLUG BUT IM WANDERING WHAT KIND OF DECODER I NEED TO GET FOR THAT AND POSSIBLY IF I COULD GET ONE THAT MIGHT BE ALL TOGETHER SOUND AND A DECODER THAT WOULD BE NICE TO IF I COULD GET ONE OF THOSE FOR IT THANKS

Check the paperwork that came with loco. It may suggest which type decoders will work.

DID THAT IT REALLY DOESNT TELL A WHOLE LOT

Check out Tony’s Train Exchange http://www.tonystrains.com/

And/or Litchfield Station http://www.litchfieldstation.com/

They have tables that list decoders for different engines. Look for Athearn SD-40, the road name does not make a difference.

  1. Please dont yell (typing in all caps=yelling).[V]

  2. Please use punctuation marks to divide your thoughts into cohesive sentences.[}:)]

  3. Digitrax DH123x or DH163x series will work. Just unplug the 9 pin connector from the decoder and then connect the decoder to the loco.[tup]

I would recommend that you use a standard Soundtraxx decoder and remove the wires and plug and you can plug in the decoder and then wire up the speaker. Place the speaker in the cab using a 3/4 inch round speaker. I have been using Tsunami decoders EMD 645 TSU 1000 which is second generation sound for the best sound.
