I hope so. I tried to get parts for a stripped blue box model I have and they don’t stock them anymore (handrails, number boards, etc). To me, the SD-40T-2 snoot is the best looking of all EMD hood diesels.
A new model with updated drive and detail would be nice. Espee of course.
I usually only run GE’s and Alco on my layout, but I’d love a good looking “snoot” SP of course. They are a unique loco that has a look I can appreciate.
Snoot nose is 100% SP. The short noses were repainted Rio Grande units.
I’m in N scale now but I’m holding on to my HO BB Athearn tunnel motor (SP Roman) for sentimental reasons and also as a future superdetailing project. I do have directional lighting installed on it.
SP had more short nose SD40T-2s (SP 8230-8299, 8489-8573) than long nose SD40T-2s (SP 8300-8321, 8327-8341, 8350-8371, 8377-8391, SSW 8322-8326, and 8372-8376). Only a few DRGW SD40T-2s were repainted for SP (in the 5300s and 5400s).
Forget SP, what about DRGW. They gonna do one with the nose lights (both version would be real sweet) and 3000 gallon fuel tanks? As I’ve said ina different thread, I’d have no problem with loss of traction making rear dummy trucks for a see-through grill.
They were hard to find when they came out. Next to impossible to find one now. Not even sure if you can have them ordered anymore! E-Bay would be the best bet for a decorated one, or buy an undec. and paint it.
