Howdy guys, I’ve got a question. Yesterday I bought an Athearn RTR SP (roman lettering, no anticlimbers) SD45T-2 and I’m thinking of getting a detail associates (right Co.?) detail set for this particular loco. So my question is, does this set have most, if not all, the details to finish the locomotive off?
any help would be appreciated,
Dave
I have a speed lettering version and from photos i’ve looked at, mine seems to have all the details, well at least on the roof [:D] i think you will just need to add pilot details to it, and maybe Gyralights on the cab mounted lights and/or a rotating beacon.
www.hankstruckpictures.com/ sp_pix.htm - there seems to be a few detail shots on here.
if not i’m sure Joe Fugate could fill you in! [:D]
I hope i helped.
Dave, The part collection you are looking for is Details West DS-339 kit: Snow Plows - 2, Cab Armrest, Piping for Air Filter, Fuel Tank Brackets, Air Filter, Fuel Tank, Drain Bar, 2 Cluster Drain Pipe, Speed Recorder, Brake Vent Regulator Valve, Moisture Ejector Valve, Sander Brackets, Truck Air Line Connector Pipe, MU Hoses, Train Line Hoses, Step Lights, Assorted Air Tank Pipings. If that appears a bit daunting, at least replace the Athearn plow (DW PL-140 will do, included in the above kit) and add MU hoses. In addition, you likely will want lift rings–usually use Detail Associates (the other guys) #2206 eye bolts or Sunrise Enterprises etched lift rings. A coupler lift bar wouold be good, though pretty well hidden by the plow. An excellent step-by-step for a “maximum effort” was done by Donnell Wellls and is now collected and posted onto John Mosbargers’ “Shasta Route Postcard Views” site: http://shastaroute.railfan.net/Model-SD45T-2_Intro.html
Thanks[tup]. I think I’m going to go with the full detail set. Doesn’t seem too hard…
