athearn starter set bodies

hey, anyone know how to get the body off of athearns SD40 starter set locos, and do they have a quick dcc plug?

(it is a new set if that helps)

Athearn hasn’t made an sd-40 yet - announced but not out yet. Not sure what you are caliing starter sets, but if your talking about a blue box sd-40-2 kit, no they do not have a plug. depending on the age of the engine, the older ones had lugs on the side of the body near the fuel tank, the newer ones have clips that come down through the tank.

First Athearn doesn’t make starter set locomotives…So,I have no idea what you are referring to.
It would help to know the CORRECT type of Athearn engine you are talking about. You see some have wires going into the headlights, some you just spread the sides while others you gently rock the body side to side to remove the shell.

sorry, it was a GP38-2, woops, and its a train set, thats what i meant by starter set

Very good…Start by GENTLY squeezing the sides of the shell and GENTLY rock the shell side to side while you GENTLY left the shell from the frame…

Actually, Athearn does make starter sets!
Not with a 6 axle unit but with the above mentioned GP38-2.

i dont think the rocking thing is working, maby i need to use more pressure

Ok,Apply a little more pressure. It will come off.

Look at the bottom of the locomotive.

You should see 4 tabs that are probably body colour.

From the top, squeeze the body inbetween the front & rear tabs, you may have to squeeze hard.
Rock & pull the body from the frame.

I hope this helps.
