Does anyone have a source for Athearn Streamline passenger windows?
I’ve been kicking around buying a CricutExplore craft cuttingmachine, if it will cut 1/32” clear Styrene sheet that would help me make up my mind. I’m pretty good with CAD and I could make a drawing that would work in the Cricut.
Anyone have any ideas? I’ve used the window maker products with fair results but I want something equal to the Athearn window sets.
I’ve had pretty good experience casting parts with clear epoxy but casting clear windows is an unknown.
I don’t know if You considered clear acetate…but I have been replacing all styrene clear windows in structures with it and it is absolutely a lot clearer than them…I have a few buildings with Ngineering real glass in them and You really can’t tell the difference when viewed side by side. Plus a lot easier to work with, cut with scissors, is .020 thick…enough to last a lifetime…it is crystal clear, both sides have a protective covering that You peel away…I use GS Hypo cement, which is also crystal clear for adhesive. That may work for You. I ordered directly from them, but there may be a store near You to check it out.
I’ll give that a shot Frank. That’s thinner than the clear Styrene (.03") so the Cricut should handle it easily. I’ve always liked the flush Athearn windows so maybe the Cricut is the way to go using the .02” clear Acetate.
I haven’t used GS Hypo cement before, will it dry clear between two pieces of the clear Acetate?

I have never used it that way before…so I can’t say for sure. I found it an excellent adhesive for installing window glazing in the 1/87 scale trucks that I build. Some are flush mount and it’s hard to tell what I used to install it. There is a bit of a learning curve when using it…but I’m sure You can handle it. I also use it on other apps. as well. Like gluing Miller Electroluminescence signs to buildings and the etched metal/plastic roof top sign braces and many other uses. What it actually is, is a Jeweler’s cement…really strong!
I get mine from Hobbylinc…a little cheaper…I just started My sixth tube…LOL. I use it on a lot of things, since I found out how strong it is, including gluing painted surfaces, when paint is totally cured.
Take Care! [:D]

EDIT: The Santa Fe sign is put together with that cement and glued to one of the roof sections that is removeable to get at circuit board, that is where the door is closed. The sign has 46 different ways of lighting…You choose the one You want, by pressing a button on the circuit board…I’m going nuts with those signs lately…should have an up date soon on WPF…On a video!
Were it Me…I would most definitely go for it…probably the smaller version would look better. That Santa Fe sign I have is the larger one and it would be hard to mount to Your peaked roofs on the station. The smaller ones come with etched metal supports that You should be able to configure to the roof… They run on 4.5v or 3 triple A batts. I run Mine on two of their power supply’s hooked into My control panel…I’m on 8 signs right now…power suppy is good for 6. Told You I’m nuts! LOL. I get mine from this place…know the owner well…John is a great guy and will answer any question You have by phone:
