Atlanta GA Train Shops?

My adult grandson, his girlfriend, my wife, and I will be in Atlanta area for a couple of days in mid February 2015 primarily to visit the aquarium. My grandson and I might have a half day available for HO model train shopping. Our significant others are very understanding and supportive of our hobby.

Any suggestions/recommendations?

Thanks,

I haven’t been there for a very long time, but Riverdale Station south of the city is a serious model railroad shop. The owner, Bob, is a gentleman.

Greetings,

I would say stop by Trainmaster in Buford, GA on the northeast side. 600 or 601 Main Street. They are on the Norfolk Southern Mainline so have a camera ready just in case. The store is on the south side of the street and the tracks are on the north side. Lionel stuff is out front. HO is on the left side in back and N is on the right. Paint, building supplies, and books are in the back in the middle.

The Southeastern Railway Museum is also on the Northeast side of Atlanta in nearby Duluth GA. Look them up on line, you could make the Museum a family experience. All of the places I will or have mentioned are close to Interstate 85. I think your ticket is still good for a train ride around the grounds but call ahead on that.

Both have online sites. I ran up to Trainmaster when my wife and daughter were shopping at the nearby mall of Georgia.

If you should be driving and happen to come down or go back I-77, or are near the Charlotte, NC area, the NC Transportation Museum in Spencer, just off I 85, is a must for any train fan, as is the Little Choo Choo Shop right across the street. They also have trainrides on the property.

Have a good trip,

Bob

Trainmaster is way north of town, Legacy Station is out in the same direction and features a lot of Lionel; Riverdale Station is south of town, owner (as of several years ago) seemed to be a pretty serious modeler.
