It runs Really hot on my layout controlled by a Zephyr using address 00. Any Ideas? Thanks for any help.

Okay, so what do you really have? A 2-8-0 is a Consolidation and a 2-6-0 is a Mogul – but I don’t think Atlas made it unless you have something other than HO scale.

Sorry, but I have no experience with anything N scale, but unless you are running this locomotive for an extended period of time, it is not normal for a motor to get hot just because you are running it from a DCC system on address 00. It may be normal for that locomotive to get hot whether it is running on DCC or DC.
The only way to know for sure would be to run it an equal period of time from both DC and DCC, and see if it gets equally hot on DC power.
Better yet, put a decoder into it and run it from DCC since you already have the Zephyr.
Whether your Atlas is a 2-8-0 or 2-6-0 , running HOT is a problem, and
It should addressed before burning the motor up.
I suspect the Digitax 00 analog position is the problem, and is not delivering pure DC, but will defer to Joe Fugate’s experience on this matter. (See his DCC seminar).
Easiest solution is to DCC all DC engine’s; or switch to a better (more expensive) DCC system before you deveop some irreversable commutator problem’s.
And while you are at putting in the decoder, you can either Mogulize it by extracting a set of drivers or rename it Consolidation and slap an extra set of drivers under it.
On a more serious note, it apparently does not like address 00, so the advise to decder it soon sounds like a sound recommendation.
