Atlas 4-4-0

Does anyone have a review fo this loco? I purchased one and was not too impressed with it. The loco spudders and stalls even on clean track, and you would have to be real crafty to put a decoder in this thing, just curious what everyone else thinks.

There is a great thread on the Atlas 4-4-0 on Trainboard. There are ideas on how to install DCC and fixes for some of the problems the loco has. It seems that it is hit and miss for bad locos, mine works great.

Spookshow posted his detailed review here…

Is there anybody with one of these engines out there?

Would it be possible to take a couple of measurements, say driver diameter, distance between driver centers, distance between lead truck wheels, and overall locomotive wheelbase?

I’m wondering how suitable it would be as the basis of a kitbashed TTn42" Prince Edward Island Railway Baldwin 4-4-0.

The review suggests some of these engines are poor runners but others are quite good. What has your experience been?

Thanks, all!

Steve

The driver diameter is .352". Driver spacing is .597". Leading truck spacing is .425". Overall wheel base is 1.69". My engine runs great and I woulds suggest getting one. Remember that this is a tender driven locomotive.

Thanks for the quick reply! I’m forwarding the info to my friend.

Take care,

Steve
