Hi,
Just wondering, what type of truck (Arch Bar, Bettendorf, etc.) do the ‘Accumate’ trucks that come on Atlas/Athearn rolling stock model?
Thanks in advance,

Accumates are couplers not trucks. I think Athearn supplies McHenry couplers with their cars which are body mounted (not part of the truck). I think Accumate couplers come with Atlas cars and locos and are also body mounted. What type of truck depends on what type of car. Most modern cars ride on Bettendorf trucks, but I’m not an expert on prototype freight trucks. Athearn and Atlas each manufacture their own trucks for their models.
Sorry, I should have been more specific - I meant the Atlas/Athearn trucks in N scale. They all appear to be of the same type, and I was wondering what it actually is.
Atlas has four different types of N trucks (mounted with Accumate couplers):
70 Ton Roller Bearing Trucks
100 Ton Roller Bearing Trucks
Friction Bearing Trucks
40 Ton Friction Bearing Trucks
There is also a variation of the 70 Ton Roller Bearing Truck with an extended coupler.
Not sure what Athearn is running as they switched over to McHenry couplers, which are newer.
Kadee couplers and trucks or bust.
Mama always said if you can’t say something nice, don’t say anything… so I’ll leave it at “Kadee is the best.”
Um…
Kadee doesn’t do trucks/couplers in N scale, as far as I know…
I know that… I was a long time N scale guy… built several large layouts over 20 years… and I still love N… but at my age I’m building what will more than likely be my last layout… and it’s also my 1st HO layout… The tiny parts just got to small to see…but I do love N.
As far a N goes… Micro Trains… good stuff.
You should be able to find what you need on the site… In the past you couldn’t order direct from Micro Trains… you had to find a hobby shop dealer… but the site has conversion tables and you should be able to figure out what you need.
I know…M-Ts are my standard replacement coupler when that’s needed. It’s just that I’ve noticed the large variety of M-T trucks, as opposed to what seems to be one design on the Atlas/Athearn RTR stuff.
I’m not sure what cars you are running…but most of the stuff atlas/athearn put on there cars are suppose to close to what was on the real cars… but really what you have to do is look up the type car you are running … take a look at the plans for the “real” car and get the right trucks… atlas and athearn do pretty good jobs …but I always upgraded all my N rolling stock with M-T stuff…
