ATLAS, can we please have HO 40 foot RBl's

I have once again looked at the great “N” scale RBl’s you have made and wonder if you will be making them in “HO”?

No one makes these in HO with separate ladders and grab irons, except in polyurethane kits.

Thanks for listening.

Chris

What is a RBI

It’s something the Phillies don’t know much about.[censored]

Then again, what is a RBI ?

Martin

I think it is RBL which is an insulated box car.

Rick

that ain’t right… we got utley and howard… just need pat “the bat” burrell to step up his game

I’ll get the phillysteaks ready while ye all workout the particulars.

Isnt it 40 feet to first base?

Is it this:

or this

or may be this?

I looked on the Atlas website and couldn’t find and RBL (or and RBI for that matter either), the closest I could find was a 40’ plug door boxcar.

Rick

RBl, as shown in my original text, stands for refridgerator, bunkerless. They are also refferred to as “plug door” or insulated box car. These cars were quite common in the late fifties, sixties and seventies. They were replaced by the 50 foot RBl.

The ATLAS site shows some great “N” scale RBl’s to give you an example of what they are. Branchline did two versions of the 50 footers in “HO”.

I recall seeing these all over the railroads in Philly and the northeast.

No company has done these in “HO” with separate ladders and grabirons except for polyurethane kits. I am hoping ATLAS or Athearn pick up on this.

Accurail does some rbl’s in ho scale, some road names correct, some not. Sunshine does an excellent resin 40 foot car. Maybe Branchline, Intermountain, or Red caboose could do one, they offer separate ladders, grabs and such.

Class R cars are refrigerated boxcars. RB means it is a bunkerless reefer. I as a suffix means the car is insulted, which would be redundant for a class R car. I think you are refering to RBL (bunkerless reefer with load restraints). Also, I found no RBI at http://www.nakina.net/aartype.html#Reefer.

ericsp,

Yes that is correct, RB L or RB lower case l, The letter style on this forum makes “l” look like an “i”? RB"l" or RB"L" Bunkerless refridgerator according to my car guide.

Semantics aside, there is a real void here from manufacturers of high quality 40 foot RBL cars that have separate grabs and ladders. ATLAS has done a beautiful job in “N”.

Thanks, Chris

I have never looked for 40’ RBLs. However, I remember when the situation was the same for 50’ & 60’ RBLs. Now there are a few to choose from. Perhaps the same will happen with the 40’ foot cars. I do wish someone would make 60’ FGE built RBLs.

I would not mind a few Insulated Boxcars myself.
