Was thinking of starting a new layout, I’ve learnd alot with the last three, and want to use code 55 n scale flex track this time instead of 80. Word is though that atlas n 55 will not hold micro train wheels. I’ve been warned of this through n scale supply and this would suck as most of my cars have these wheels. I thought I had heard this problem was corrected but I could be wrong. Word?
First, bear in mind that standard Micro Trains wheels are not manufactured to meet the NMRA RP25 profile. The track isn’t the problem. Also, there are a number of options to replace the wheels. Some are not too expensive, such as the plastic wheelsets offered by Atlas.
If you’re dealing with a relatively small fleet, it’s not that big a deal. I’ve got over 300 freight cars, and probably had to re-fit about half of them. It took a little time, but it’s done. The vast improvement in the appearance of the track makes it a worthy investment. Don’t let the tail wag the dog.
