Atlas Code

Being totally new, I see references to Atlas Code 83 and 100. What is the difference?

Allen

The difference is the size (height) of the rail. Code 83 track is.83" high, code 100 rail .100".

The other thing to know is that while the two can be mixed, you need to transition from one to the other with transition rail joiners or track pieces and/or some shimming.

Atlas’s code 83 track is unique in that the choose to use ties .017" thicker than everyone elses. They did this so that thier code 83 track has the same overall dimension from the bottom of the ties to the top of the rail as thier (and everyone elses) code 100 track. No shimming required for Atlas Code 83 to Code 100.

Rail height.

Picky! Picky! Picky!

Think zero as in point-ZERO-eight-three. You’ve got your Code 83 rail 21mm high. That’s pretty big rail!

I know! Picky! Picky! Picky!
