Call me careless, but when I lift up an Atlas Custom Line turnout that has been ballasted and glued, sometimes one of the rails comes loose. I blame it on the plastic spikes which don’t hold the ends of the rails very firmly.
Yup. It happens. I just join it to another piece of track that serve’s as a gauge stabilizer and use traditional two part epoxy to glue the nickle silver to the plastic ties. Some folks don’t solder their turnouts to other tracks, but I do. If you don’t, you might make an exception in this case in order to keep the rail stabilized.
I’ve used a combination of spikes to hold the rail in place and Loc Tite glue to keep it in place. At shows my old club went to somebody usually ended up tearing up a rail assembling the layout.
