Atlas customer service

I sent in an engine to Atlas and I hadn’t recieved it after a month, so I emailed them. They said they were short a repair man so i asked for a new engine. He said they were out of stock so I asked for a money back. He then forwarded the email to another guy and I hadn’t heard back. But today I recieved a new engine. I think they put a decoder in it also, because they said Decoder install Stock #49458. Is there any way to tell if a engine has a decoder if you do not have DCC?

You could take the body off and have a look.

Bob

I did. I just can’t tell if it has a decoder. it has a PC board, but I can’t find a picture of a sd35 in N scale with or without a decoder.[V]

You need to be reasonably carefull when removing the body. You need to lift it off the frame from the cab end first then lift the rear end until the whole lot comes free. Quite often the body is tight at first and seems to not to want to come free. So be careful where t you hold it so nothlng gets broken as you apply pressure.

An engine without DCC has a printed circuit board that is quite simple and it is just a light board, there are just a couple of copper tracks and LED’s on it. A DCC board on the other hand is much more complex although it is exactly the same size as the light board type. It has lots of tiny electronic parts all over.

Putting the body back on is easy. Just place it on the frame and push it down smoothly until it lock into place.

It has a whole bunch of tiny electronic parts so I must have a decoder for free.[:D][:D]
