I have a couple of Atlas engines (HO Scale C425s) that I’d like to drop DCC into. Is this the correct decoder to drop in plug-wise? I did install a DH123AT decoder in another but don’t like how that went. I’d rather have a plug to plug in the top like the Athearn RTR does.
I don’t have any of the C425’s, but depending on how much room it has the DH123PS should fit.
You can also use the DZ125PS, DZ143PS, and possibly the DN143IP (it might need a spacer). If you need more functions than the stock lighting, the similar xx163xx decoders should also fit.
As a point of reference, I’ve used DZ123PS’s in several Atlas GP7’s and I’m pleased with the results. The new DZ125PS has about the same specs and is even smaller so it should work equally well.

Thanks for the info. These locos are a bit older but this upgrade (basic features are all that’s needed) should keep them ‘fresh’ for a while.
Is the plug the decoder comes with ‘drop in and go’ or do I have to solder anything?
Are these yellow box Kato-Atlas, or a bit newer? I prefer a drop-in replacement board decoder, like a NCE DA-SR, or equivalent. They snap into the motor mounts on top. The Kato truck wires are almost long enough to get into the tabs on the board. I think the motor strips should fit into the board without much extra work.
