I just checked the Atlas website to see the September new oriducts and I found a B&M GP38-2 Atlas has come out with a lot of cool New Enlgand RR stuff this year. I cant weight to buy locos again. But for now I have to buy track and stuff. Hopefully I can buy some locos again starting in January. Tim
I’m still waiting on the much-anticipated, but still mythical Atlas Alco C420, hopefully in both low-hood and hi-hood Monon versions.

Lots of new paint, but very few new models from Atlas this year, So I hope they’re saving money for the tooling!

But more seriously,
I’m thinking of picking up the just-announced D&RGW Hart ballast hopper.
[tup]
Only problem is, I think they are only offering one road number.
It will look much sweeter than my MDC ballast hoppers, but it’s obviously going to be awhile before I can replace them all. But that’s one of my tricks, leaving the good-looking newer model on the end of a string of older stock, when taking photos, etc.
Do you model N scale or Ho? Yes actually they have made mostly new paint. Check this out though. http://www.atlasrr.com/NLoco/ngp38-2.htm
I want N scale NS D8-40Cs Both becuase I want 8-s and becuase I can turn them into D9-40Cs
I’m in HO.
And I like the Trainman RS-32 their coming out with, A few good add on detail parts and it will be great.
I bought two of the new release GP-7’s (NKP) recently. They make a great loco. It’s seems like they are going full bore this year putting out some great MRR items. Terry
There production is way down for new items.
Alot of repaints of old items but few new release. Athearn is beating them to the market in all areas
I totally disagree that Atlas has been coming out with good new products. None of the engines are new big diesels. They release some boxcars but I really do not care about specific boxcars as some do. Its all important to release modern big diesels
They have both the MP15 switcher and B-30-7 in Frisco logo, which I’ll be modeling, unfortunately, though they’re a later production era than my planned layout era (late 50’s–early 60’s).

I do my modeling in HO, but I’ve never come across a living person in that scale!
Well, normally I’m 6’2", but sometimes – like Steve Martin used to say – you just feel like getting “small”!
[:D]
“Normal” is 6’4" here in Edville.[:P]
All I need from Atlas is track for now. A few DCC equipped diesels are on the wish list for much later. Atlas products are on the approved list.[tup]
Im mostly happy about the New England stuff. They cam out with a B&M finnaly, Central Vermont RS-11,GP-7 Guilford, SD-35 Guilford, GP-40 Green Mountain, GP-40 Vermont Railway, GP-40 Providence and Worcester, and one I already have a RS-11 Maine Central. All in 06! And some New England rolling stock. Also some New Haven locos. I am happy. Maybe Kato can come out with some New England stuff in N? Tim
I must admit i am thrilled with my new hi nose GP-38s and my B-23-7s, but maybe a high nose SD-40-2 for us NS/SRR modelers, to go with all these new high hood Geeps? How about it Atlas? Pretty please??
Still searching for NS Dash 9s in N…Azure
Pretty Pretty please Atlas or Kato. We need a Sd40-2 high Hood.

For big new diesels, it seems that in N you can go with Kato or Athearn… Atlas is the only company coming out with new first and second generation diesels, and for that I (as a transition-era modeler) am grateful. I don’t keep up as much with HO, but the situation seems similar. Athearn, Kato, Tower 55, etc. have the modern power covered. Atlas is stepping in with the EMD, FM, and Alco first-generation hood units.
Atlas boxcars, however, tend to be pretty generic. They’ll model, say, a PS-1 boxcar and then slap a whole bunch of roadnames on it regardless of whether that road actually used them or not. But then, Atlas is by far the only company doing that; nearly all do. And for non-PRR equipment, I don’t really mind. I’ll use “generic” DL&W, NYC, NKP, AT&SF, etc. cars to round out my otherwise prototype-only PRR roster. After all, who has time to research the freight rosters of every other railroad whose equipment might be found in interchange service on your railroad?
Thanxs you for the links. Dave I also like the fact that Atlas has been making a lot of transition era stuff and I am loving it. lol I will not be buying any more engines until January. I have to buy A LOT of track.
I’d have to disagree. Atlas hasn’t really come out with anything great since the Dash 8s and MP15s. Recently it’s just been rehashes of previously released models in obscure paint schemes. My advice to Atlas, do a freaking SD40-2! It doesn’t appear that Kato will be re-running them anytime soon, and the BLI’s are poor as are the Athearns. If Atlas did a popular locomotive like that with all of the awesome characteristics of their current models, they’d sell like wild fire!
I agree with trainfreek… Those GP38-2’ are gonna be nice, I’m getting two with decoders, and a third that will have a sound decoder.
