Atlas HO Track Questions.......

Hi!

Perhaps you all can help me with these questions on Atlas HO Code 100 Track (I checked their website and could not secure answers)…

  • What is the length of the straight portion of the new # 8 Turnout?

  • I believe the Atlas Code 100 HO Wye is the equivalent of a # 5 turnout - is this true?

  • Atlas used to make flex track with brown and with black ties. Do they still do so?

  • In 3 or 4 months I’ll be needing several # 8 turnouts and at least 25 sections of flex track. Where do you suggest I give my business to get a good price and service?

Thank you,

Mobilman44

Can’t help you with #1.

The Atlas wye is a #3 which is equivilent to a #6 straight turnout.

All Atlas CD100 track comes with black ties, only. And the CD83 track comes with brown ties, only.

I give my LHS most of my business. But either Trainworld or Standard Hobby usually have the best deal.

http://www.traintrack.net/ is worth a look. It could be that for a substantial purchase he will offer to either reduce or eat the shipping. Perhaps even better than that.

You won’t find it any cheaper…

Good guys to deal with.[tup] They sell the code 83 too.
PS-They don’t list the #8’s, but I’m sure have or can get them.

No they no longer make it, if you want the code 100 brown tie track you will have to look to old hobby store stock or the used market.

1 - Per the Atlas RTS 8.0 - It looks like 13.5" long for the tangent side.

2 - The Atlas ‘Wye’ is a #3 - it divirges like a #6 to each direction.

3 - They did make code 100 flex in brown for a very short time. It has been years since they did that. Code 100 is black, code 83 is brown now.

4 - There are a lot of on-line dealers. Make sure they have the stuff in stock(use the phone to order it).

Thanks Jim,

The 13.5 in for the # 8 tangent makes sense, as the # 6 is 12 in. I’m doing scale drawings for the new layout and used 15 in for them, so the shorter length gives me some leeway.

I usually use one of the two LHS, except when large purchases come up and they are strictly msrp in their pricing. I have used Toy Train Heaven in the past - and they have been great - but perhaps some others could make a major difference pricewise.

In a month or two at the most I’ll have a track materials shopping list, and shortly thereafter a BIG Digitrax shopping list.

Thanks again,
