I have a few questions about Atlas locomotives (specifically the C40-8W), as I have never purchased one before.
Do they ship with the handrails and detail parts already installed? If yes, how easy is it to remove everything? I would like to repaint a conrail version into norfolk southern, but I have never dissassembled a fully assembled locomotive (only started with undecorated).

According to the Atlas web site, the hand rails, grab irons and windshield wipers are seperate, installed by you.
They offer a NS all ready to go. If your buying new.

The handrails are best removed with a sprue cutter. Then they are pressed into the holes in the body of the loco.
Is it the silver series or gold series. I have several of the gold series dash 8s with sound, and they all came with the detail parts installed.
Yes, I have a gold series Trainmaster, and everything was already installed. Including extra packing to make sure none of the handrails or other details got crushed in shipping - just getting it out of the box is an adventure.

I believe Atlas sells an undecorated version that comes without the detail parts installed.
