Atlas N scale GE Dash 8-40CW

ATLAS WITH THEIR SLOW MOTOR BRAINCHILD IS THE REASON I HAVE STOPPED MODELING FOR THE TIME BEING.I HAD THEIR OTHER ENGINES ON MY N SCALE RR ,BUT WHEN THEY STARTED THE SLOWER SCALE SPEED JUNK I HAD TO STOP BECAUSE THE SLOWER ENGINES WOULDN’T RUN WITH THE REST OF MY FLEET.I DO NOT HAVE ROOM FOR A BIGGER SCALE SO I WILL HAVE TO WAIT TILL I HAVE THE ROOM FOR HO.ATLAS HAS A GREAT PRODUCT,BUT WE SHOULDN’T BE TOLD HOW FAST OUR ENGINES SHOULD GO.ISN’T THAT WHAT THE THROTTLES ON THE TRANSFORMERS ARE FOR.WE SHOULDN’T HAVE TO SPEND EXTRA MONEY TO REDO OUR FLEET BECAUSE A COMPANY HAS A BAD IDEA.I’VE BEEN WANTING TO VENT TO SOMEONE ABOUT THIS SINCE ATLAS MADE THIS BADDD MOVE.YOU CAN BET WHEN I START START MODELING AGAIN IT WON’T BE WITH ATLAS.

I have one of these engines and I am totally satisfied with it.
No complaints whatsoever.

I BOUGHT THIS LOCOMOTIVE ABOUT A MONTH AGO, AND IT IS A GREAT LOCO. I HAVE A 9 3/4 CURVE ON MY LAYOUT AND IT HAS NO PROBLEM WITH IT. I WILL BUY MORE IF ATLAS MAKES THEM.

I have a few of these engines and they run great. Super detailing them is easy.

I have two of them and found I had to add some extra weight to get the same pulling ability of two of their SD-60M’s on my hilly Boston & Albany layout.

I am a member of the Model Railroad Club in Union NJ and other members who have the engines have expressed the same complaint about pulling ability. The units all have DCC.

The ditch lights blinked alternatingly when I tested it on DC at the Train Shop when I bought it. Beautiful model!

I have other brands of this locomotive so I’ll wait until it comes out in BNSF livery before considering adding it to my pike.

Looks impressive. I plan to go to my local hobby shop to test one out,

People shouldn’t plan or expect every locomotive that a company puts out to be compatible with other brands, or yet other previous releases, such as the second release of the SD-50s that Atlas did in N Scale a few years back. Sort them, and find ‘compatible’ units that run fine together if in DC mode operation. They, just like the auto industry and airline industry, reserve the right to experiment with different components, and different motors. I’d be willing to bet these dash 8s would run fine with my later SD-50 releases they did, which are equipped with the same motors as these dash 8s. Thanks, Atlas, for variety!

Well i don’t have one of these specific locos, i do have a new atlas train man GP-15 and i love it… i’ve always liked the offerings from atlas and will definately be purchasing one or more of these fine examples.

I have bought 2 of these locomotives and they handle curves very well but they don’t have very good slow speed maneuvering , they work much better when in a consist. When going over a high grade they do not handle down hill movement is restricted easily while other locomotives handle it better causing me to partially relay track.
Both of my locomotives repair well i have found but the gears tend to get jammed but can be easily fixed by using a computer keyboard dust blower.
