Atlas NE-6 Cabooses

I agreed to prepare 4 of a friend’s Atlas NE-6 cabooses for service; i.e., add ‘resistored’ wheel sets for his detectors, change the couplers to Kadees, and weather all four.

One look at the Atlas trucks made me suspicious. The side frames look like the molds or masters were prepared by someone working from a poorly lit photograph – there is practically no detail. [V] Putting the ‘resistored’ wheel sets in those trucks really did it. They might slide on clean rail but they weren’t going to roll. [:(!]

Eastern Car Works trucks provided the missing detail. They may not be accurate (Bettendorf on the two CRR cars and Andrews and Taylor on the two N&W cars because that’s what my LHS had in stock) but they look great. [:)] And they roll away from you when you breathe heavily. [:D]

[#oops]
Somewhere along the way, I commented that the exquisite detail on these cars (except for the trucks) deserves interior detail and perhaps lighting and working markers. [D)][D)][D)] Before I put my other foot in my mouth, has anyone been able to separate the car body and the floor on one of these cars (hopefully, without destroying either one) ?? If so, please get me off the hook and let me know how you did it.

Thanks,
Chuck
