Atlas Oregon Pass in RTS

I am trying to help some one out who wants to build this layout but he needs it mirrored. I am trying to get a template for RTS 10 but I have not been able to find one. Do any of you have the RTS file for that layout? Or know where I can get the file? Going of the pics that are on the atlas website is a little hard since I cant tell what is connected and what it not.

Thanks in advance

Massey

A scale diagram, complete with labels as to track pieces go where, can be found in the Atlas HO King Size Plan Book. There are also tips on benchwork, track laying, and wiring the layout. Recommended reading even if you don’t use Atlas products to build the layout. You can order at http://www.atlasrr.com under the layout books line under the layouts tab.

my thoughts, your choices

I know about all that, and I have copies of those pages from that book but I was looking for the RTS file. Other Atlas layouts are available and a few come with the RTS software. I was hoping some one had the #36 track plan that I could get to save me the time of creating it from scratch.

Since virtually all the Atlas layouts were designed long before the RTS software deal, Atlas only bothered to redraw some of their layouts with RTS. The larger and bigger designs would take more time to redraw, and hence tend not to be worth their effort. Larger designs are also much less likely to be built unaltered.

Is not scanning the printed design, mirroring it, then reprinting it good enough?

just a thought

It would work for me but he is a novice builder and if he cant see the part numbers and the exact locations, which switch goes where and what have you he is lost. I thought this was going to be a much simpler task until I got into it a few. Oh well I can try to make the best of what I have.

Hi Massey,

convince him first it might not be the best starter plan, very steep, probably impossible grades. A footprint with severe reach-in issues. Yes filled, with loads of tracks.

Fred told you specifically what to do when you insist of building the Oregon. Buy the appropriate Atlas book and buy the stuff mentioned, only replace left-hand turnouts by righthands.

Have you located this yet?

I am interested in trying to use it in reverse, as well.

Please let me know if you have an electronic copy?

Thanks.
