Atlas Passenger station footprint?

I am about to start planning the details for the next section in my layout. The Atlas passenger station is the only building I know I want to use so far but I need to know how big it is (N scale) so I can plan the rest of the module around it. Unlike with most of their structures Walthers does not list the size. Any help would be appreciated.

Well, this may be kind of obvious, but if you KNOW you want to use the Atlas station, why not just go out and buy it?

That way, you’ll not only be able to find out how big it is, but you’ll also be able to paint, build, and detail it while you’re building that module. Then, when the module is ready for the station, the station will be ready for the module.

By chance I needed to know the same information a couple of days ago. According to e-hobbyland.com the dimensions are: 6 1/2" x 2 1/3". The platform (also of interest to me) is 3 1/4" x 1 1/4" (two per package). It took a couple of attempts but I came up with the information with a Google search.

The ‘N’ scale one is 2 3/4" by 1 7/8". Each of the platforms are 1 1/8" by 2 7/8". I measured these on RTS 7.0.

Thanks Jim this is just what I needed to know.

i can see where this would appear to be a stupid question. Why not just buy it and put it in place because I have decided that it is the station I want to use. The module is built, the main line and a 5 foot long passing siding that will be serviced by station is already laid and has trains running on it. So why not just get the kit and start on it?

I want this module to represent a medium sized town in the late 1950’s early 60’s. Somewhere on it there is going to be a small freight station and a cold storage/grocery warehouse. I need to know how much room I need to allow for the station, with at least one set of extra platforms, before I cut in the turnout for the other tracks. Now I know that I will need two of the platform kits so 3 passenger cars can off load people at the station. Since this would only be 11 1/4 inches long and 2 3/4 deep I could possibly put a turnout on eather side of the station. I am not sure if I want to do that, it seems like a lot of track for an “in town” area but it would help cover the blue plateau.

My wife may not believe it, but I do try to plan these things. I just don’t do it all before I start.

Well, for what ever it’s worth, I purchased both station and platform this weekend (for my personal use) and my original dimensions stand - from direct measurement.

Are you working in N or HO? If you are in N scale that will save me from buying a second set of platforms. Thanks for your help.

I’m working in N scale (a 3 x 6) and it looks like I’ll need to buy some more platforms, but I plan to see it I can add may own home grown ones as well (at 9.99 each it adds up fast).

Have fun!

If you are talking about the Atlas passenger station as in my sig below, the station alone, in N scale, is 3.25" wide by 2.25" deep. I didn’t add the platforms.
