Atlas Plastic Station Model

I recently acquired the “Timber Ridge” preformed styrene layout. The track used is Atlas 100 (HO). The roadbed is raised in styrene so you glue the track down and add ballast. Anyway I’ve assembled the Atlas station (plastic kit) to be part of the layout. How close should the raised station platform be to the track? I don’t want it too far from the track nor too close. We don’t want passengers falling in a hole do we?

The NMRA has standards, but from a practicle standpoint put it as close to the track as you can without interfering with the operation of your trains. Be sure your widest equipment clears. If it is near a curve, you might have to take into account the overhang on long equipment also.
