Once in a while I come across something new.
Right Track RTS from Atlas is now a version 7.0 availible for download.
I visit the download site and attempt to download. It starts off at .80 kb/sec and levels off at a blazing fast 1.30 kb/sec requiring an hour of download for a 5 meg file.
My Fast DSL can vacumn that 5 meg file in approx 30 seconds off a full server that has unlocked bandwidth. Atlas apparently is connected to a dailup line and dies after about 20 minutes.
May I ask the favor of someone emailing me a copy of version 7.0? I have a very big mailbox and can carry this file easily.
All I have is 5 and I could not make it do what I wanted. You will surely do better if you can get it
HighIron,
This is the first day/first hour it was announced. their server si probably swamped. Give it a day or so, or try loading late at night, and it should work faster.
I couldn’t get 5.0 to do what I wanted either. I have better luck with Abracadata’s Design Your Own Railroad.
My roadrunner connection is downloading it at a whopping 1 KB. Must be like spacemouse said, everyone is swamping the site. Will give it a little longer, then might wait a day or two.
I am downloading it right now - 70 minutes and another 15 minutes to go(very high speed connection) - I noticed that he entire Atlas site has been sort of slow today.

I noticed that too when I was in the forum. It took forever to get a page up, AND I HAVE A T1 CONNECTION ON MY OWN PRIVATE SERVER!!! (top of the line incase you didn’t know) [8D]
Have tried to download the Atlas software on several occasions & the only success I’ve
had to date was to experiance massive computer problems , so quit trying.
What Atlas really needsto do is to put the whole program on a CD & sell it for a proper fee like $19.95 + S&H , since the down load is free any how & score some points with
their customers. Tom
I’m amazed to hear of so many problems with downloading or using old RTS 5.0. Normally I figure I’m among the most computer challenged of people on this site, yet I was able to download it and use it to design my (admitedly not huge) layout and it did fine. It took me a while to figure out how to handle flextrack but otherwise did okay. I understand that’s one of the things they’ve supposedly corrected in the new version.
It doesn’t have a lot of bells and whistles but the price was right.
If and when I ever get around to thinking about a new layout I expect to try version 7.0.
Regards
Ed
i tried last night , the transfer rate was way too slow so i cancelled it . so far today i been getting unable to connect messages , and now one saying service not available . atlas’s site is either very busy , they took the download offline , or something is broken
Well, I finally got it to download.
It looks like its vastly improved!
I only downloaded the N scale and all its accessories so I can’t comment on the HO or O scale but the N is great.
The flextrack thing is much easier to use, although I didn’t have a problem with the old setup. This one is a piece of cake though.
The turnouts connect up like they should (the code 55 No.7’s didn’t in the version 5) and the new code 55 wye is there(yea!).
There are also height and terrain features that can be used, although I haven’t played much with those yet. There is also a 3D view that you can use (again, I haven’t played much with that yet either).
All in all, it looks a lot more user friendly and it looks like some of the bugs are fixed (like the program locking up if you use the line drawing tool for too long).
I hear that they moved it to a different server so maybe the download problems have been handled as well.
Give it a try and see if you can get it to go now. I think you’ll be happy once you get your paws on it!
(NO, I don’t work for them!)
Even if you don’t use it for designing your trackplan . . .
I had a friend who used it to layout out the track schematic for his control panel.
Got it tonight about 2am… no probs, even using dialup. d/l’d in about 20-30 mins. Haven’t had a chance to use it yet, but it looks greatly improved.
Since I go to work at 530am, I downloaded before that. Took less than 2 minutes on roadrunner. Havent tried the program much yet tho. Will try to design a layout for the new house soon. Wife was nice enough to let me have the “formal dining room” (12 x 13) for a train room. Course only cost me the price of a new home LOL.
hmmm . 10 am EST and i’m still getting the ‘service unavailable’ message . tryed clearing my cache and cookies but no luck . will try again later
As at 10:05am EST Service is Still Unavailable. I’ll try later.
I have used 5.0 and find it really easy to use. I’ve never had any issues getting it to do what I want it to do. Maybe I’m stretching as mush as some of you like to…who know’s. But I find it pretty good.
