Does anyone know if the old Atlas FP-7 that was manufactured by ROCO is a smooth runner. How does the ROCO design compare to the Made in Japan or Made in China versions of the Atlas product? Does it have decent pulling power?
I have one and it is smooth and pulls well. I prefer the operations of the motors in my Atlas GPs.

Watch out as there are two versions of the Roco drive for this model…both in yellow boxes. The older drive is rough and very noisy, while the newer one is smooth as silk and pulls a ton. To tell the difference, you have to pop the shell. If the frame is very thick with fine-toothed gears, it’s the newer drive. If it’s got a thin frame and coarse gears, it’s the old one.

I have a pair of the Atlas FP7s for my San Jaoquin. Never had a problem with them.
