I am trying to do a conversion of an Atlas Alco RS1 to resemble (no rivet counting here) the GTW RS1 #1950 in it’s CN green and yellow livery. I know others have done this conversion and have had problems getting the rectangular exhaust stack. I too would like to know if they were successful and how they resolved it. (I may butcher one from and RS3 as best I can). My immediate problem however is in the decals. I purchased a set from Microscale (Stock # 87-991) as they were for, among others, an RS1. However, upon checking the decals for the sides of the hood…they appearto be too long by about 5 or 6 mm’s. Does anyone know of another set of Decals for this unit?
Thanks for any help
John
I used Accucal Multipak #5808H to letter some CNR hood units for a friend. Included in the set, in addition to that for CNR, are hood-side name patches for CV, DW&P, GT, and GTW, along with the appropriate heralds. These sets have three sheets of decals which include pretty-well all that’s required to letter several locos, and include also the yellow stripes for the sides of the frame, and the patches and flared chevrons for the hood ends, along with both the original and newer style cab numbers.
While these sets are sometimes hard to find, in my opinion they’re among the best available. Their Accupaint is also a good match for that green and gold colour scheme, and a good match for the decals, too.
