Atlas RS3

I just got two Atlas RS3 locos.T he number on the bottom reads 37701. I want to remove the shell without wrecking them. I removed the couplers now where do I pry to release the shell. There has to be “tabs” on the chassis----right? HELP ! Happy Jose

Most Atlas locos you dont need to remove the couplers…

The Atlas RS-3 has four tabs that hold the shell in place. They are located at each corner of the hood. If you look at the loco from underneath you can see where the tabs are located. The hood and the walkway are separate castings.

Ummm, You may want to be careful here. I have several older Atlas Classic RS-3’s that I am in the middle of converting the light bulbs over to LED’s. All of my RS-3’s from atlas have the body and walkway attached and must be removed together as 1 piece from the metal frame.

Remove the 2 couplers and coupler boxes. Turn the locomotive upside down. Use a small (very small) jewelers screwdriver and gently insert it between the underside of the walkway and the metal frame in the corners. Gently pop the frame out of the body. Slide the remaining frame out from the body.

The walkways and body do need to be removed together, but they are not attached to each other as in one piece, however the cab is secured with tabs between the battery oxes.
