atlas rs3

i recently ordered a rs3 from atlas from my Lsh since i normally buy BB athearn, can anybody give me an idea as how they perform, level of detail, any other ideas ?[:D]

I have one Atlas RS-3 on my layout detail is ok , runs very smooth and quiet. No complaints,

I have dozens of Athern BB’s, dating from the early '60’s to last year. I have 3 Atlas DCC/sound units, and will probably buy more Atlas in the future - depending on how much UP they make![:D]

I have both the newer Athearn (ex MDC) RTR RS3 and an Atlas Classic RS3. The detail on the Athearn is better plus it came DCC ready, but the Atlas is a much better runner. It’s quieter and has better slow speed operation. I had to wire in a decoder but that wasn’t a huge issue.

I have a small fleet of Atlas RS3s. I love them. Quite and very smooth. They look good stock, but after, I add MU hoses, and weather the grills, and they look great.

While they’re not equipped with a DCC quick plug, they do take drop in decorders that replace the Atlas circuit board.

I have 2 and have 2 on preorder. They perform very well and their detail is good. I would recommend them to anybody.

The Atlas RS-3s (both Japanese and Chinese made versions) are the best running RS-3s in HO scale.

The body shells are nicely detailed, but bear in mind that the Atlas shell represents the earliest phase of RS-3 production (1950-1952). The early RS-3s have the wide engineer’s cab side window, just like the Atlas shell.

Later versions of the prototype had the narrower engineer’s cab side window (like the Roundhouse/Athearn RTR RS-3s) and some of these units were built with exposed carbody air filters in the hood doors instead of louvres.

I have several of the RS3’s from Atlas and like them better than some of the Proto offerings…Good detail and quiet runners…Bonus is they come in both Canadian National and Canadian paint schemes…the early ones …the good old days
