I’ve seen a few folks in here talk about the atlas software for designing layouts. I registered for it and it said after 21 days they charge you for it except for a few conditions. so whats the story here, do you have to pay for it?
thanks, mark

Mark,
It’s a FREE download from what I know. (At least it was for RTS 5.0.) I’ll take a look and double-check…
Tom
I have downloaded it many times - You resister and download it for FREE. If you want service, you may have to pay for it. I just checked the Atlas web site, it has not changed. Did you ‘download’ it and ‘install’ it?

Mark,
I clicked on the link for the RTS 7.0 software and the first paragraph states the following:
Atlas’ popular layout planning program, the Right Track Software, has been upgraded to Version 7.0 and is available as a FREE DOWNLOAD! (~5mb in size)
It’s FREE…
Tom
Thanks Tom, and thank you too Jim. I get a little sketchy on sites when they say “free downloads” then you download it and it comes up with that stuff on it.
Like they say, It’s FREE.
I used it to design my layout and then built a 3-D model from the track plan to help work out problems and for a guide while actually building the layout (I bet a lot of folks are tired of hearing me say that.) [:)]
Take a look:
I used it to design my entire 36’x20’ triple deck layout. After I learned how to use it, I was very satisfied with it. The only thing I couldn’t get to work was the sprial command, but easy to work around and everything has fit well to date.
Many people have said they don’t like it, but for zero dollars, I took the time to learn it!

Any suggestions for using it to design w Lionel tubular, 031 & 072 track and 022 switches?
Grumpy,
The RTS software does have O-scale capabilities and structures, but I don’t know for sure if that includes 3-rail or not. Does Atlas make 3-rail track?
Tom
grumpy4,
You are sort of out of luck. Atlas only has their own track libraries, and there is no provision for creating yur own track components. There is Xtrakcad(sp?) - and that has been a free download lately as well. They may have a Lionel library, or the ability to create your own track components.
