Atlas SD35 or B'mann SD45 to power Athearn FP45?

Anyone ever put an (Athearn or other) FP45 shell on a Bachmann SD45 mechanism? How about an Atlas/Roco SD (24 or 35) mechanism on a rebuilt frame?

Mike

The SD35 is way too short. The SD45 is also too short(but closer). Of course Athearn has a correct FP45.

Don’t know why someone would want to. What is so great about the Bachmann Chassis?

Is the Atlas or Athearn broken? If so you could get repair parts.

Or is this a BlueBox frame that needs a little more get-up and go?

Blue box, noisier than I’d like…

Same reason I put the body of an Athearn blue box SDP40F on a Proto 2000 E6 chassis. The chassis was a little longer than I needed but a Dremel can work wonders.

Athearn also makes the F45 in Genesis rim. DCC w/sound, a beautiful unit. Pulled wonders, short break in time. Once I had the sound volumes set it was wonderful. Was pulling around 25 cars of my own and pushing around 15 single handedly with out a hiccup or even noticeable decrease in track speed. I feel I need to mention it was not my doing, another operator was running some cars and after I think four de-couplings we finally found the faulty culprit.

Oh, it’s also a Santa Fe unit, I think maybe this is giving it some extra power.
