Wife, just reminded me. How do we remove the engine body from the chassy on a EMD GP 38-2. It has been a long while, I would like to update the lighting, sound, and add ditch lites. Thnxs again, Chub
It’s been a few months since I’ve removed one, but I seem to recall that all you have to do is spread the sides of the shell away from the chassis and it comes off.
Actually you need to unscrew both couple boxes and slide them out of the pilots. Then the body should slide off. Try to pull the shell directly upward. If you’ve had the shell off before, it should separate easily. If this is the first time, you may have some paint holding on here or there. If this is the case, a small persuading device may need to be inserted between the shell and frame. But excessive force should not be needed. I think the most fragile part of the shell is that half-bell that is along one edge.
