Atlas Trainmaster-lighting problem

A friend has an Atlas Fairbanks-Morse with QSI. He reports that when he uses the F key to enable the lighting, it will go on, but if he then presses the F0 to shut it off, it will not go off. Another time, he will get it to go on as usual, but it will shut itself off within a second or two.

He has done a reset, wherat the problem seems to correct itself. When he resets his address, the problem reappears. Is there a simple fix to this? I have never fooled around with any CV’s that alter lighting, so I can’t speak to him knowledgeably.

Please help.

This almost sounds like it is more a mixup of what speed step mode is being used. What address is he trying to program it to, and what value of CV29 is he using? And what DCC system does he have? This would all explain the loco working fine on address 03 but the problem coming back when the address is reset. On most systems you can ‘status edit’ a specific address to run it in a different speed step mode than the system’s default. The old 14 step mode included the headlight information in the speed packets. You’d probbaly see the light going on and off as you slowly change speed if this is happening.

Thanks, Randy. If there was one person whom I hoped would scan this request, it was thou. [:)]

I’ll pass this on to him asap, but I hope I can count on your continued assistance if I end up being an intermediary for him over the next three or four posts.

Thanks, again.
