I was wondering how many people have used the bachmann ez track or the Atlas True Track and what was their results?
True track and Ez Track are easy to assemble, and you do not need to lay roadbed down first. However, it is hard to ballast and will not look as real as traditional track on roadbed. Also, select pieces can cost twice as much as the equivelent pieces of atlas snap track.
I have over 30’ of EZ-Track on my layout, including their wide-radius snap switches. The track goes together easily, but you do have to take your time to ensure you haven’t mis-aligned the ends in the joiners. It can be tilted on curves to make superelevated ones, and you can make transitions into grades, allthough not like flex-track.
I found that it ballasted well. You don’t need much of it due to its plastic “ballast” base, but mine looks decent.
The problem with the track, from my point of view, is that one has a constrained degree of freedom when it comes to orientation, and with the lengths of straights and curves due to the shapes and sizes of the individual pieces that one can readily buy. You can, however, always introduce flex-track “patches” here and there to get more freedom.
