Atlas Turnouts and DCC, problems, solutions

I’m thinking about DCC for my layout. Since I’ve got all Atlas turnouts, both custom line and snap, are there any problems with them on DCC? Also what are some solutions. There are too many turnouts to change them all out. Thanks for the help.

Paul,

I have a simple 4 x 8’ layout with (13) Code 83 Atlas “Snap” turnouts: two on my mainline, one on my interchange, five in my yard, and five in my servicing terminal area. I use the Bachmann EZ Command to run the entire layout on just two wires. I only have one turnout that has given me problems and it’s in my yard. The problem is not DCC related. When the turnout is closed, the power to the rail is shut off. I guess it isn’t power-routed like the rest.

So…no problems with the Atlas “Snap” turnouts. The only time I ever have derailments is when I forget to throw a switch when my 2-8-2 is going through the turnout. I have purchased all my Code 83 turnouts in the past 2 - 3 years so they are fairly new.

Hope that’s a help…

Tom

Paul, I use the Atlas Turnouts and have no problems with them with DCC. I do power the frogs either from the Tortoise machines, or from a microswitch installed under the layout. They are considered DCC friendly.

Yep, I agree. My DCC layout has about 50 atlas turnouts, no problems whatsoever, electrically anyway.
