Is there any interchangability between the Atlas and MTH trailers, it would be nice to be able to swap them around to create new trains with the same basic rolling stock with different loads. [?] [8D] [^]
Doug, I tried responding to this one yesterday, and accidentally hit the escape button and lost it.
Unfortunately I don’t have the exact answer that you are looking for, because I haven’t got any of the Atlas trailers to compare to. I’ve wanted to pick some up, but have never found them at a price I like. I have a feeling that people are buying them just as fast as Atlas can make them. The 2 rail guys are porbably absorbing a lot of them, and are less likely to buy the MTH ones because they need to be converted.
Atlas has always been known for their scale accuracy, but the MTH trailers are also exactly to scale. One drawback to the MTH double stack cars is that the trailers are so tall, that it is hard to find a through style truss bridge that they will fit through.
K-line has made their trailers very close to scale length, but not full scale height. This helps the bridge problem considerably.
I have a srtong feeling that the MTH and Atlas trailers won’t be an exact match. I’m basing this on the fact that the MTH and K-line trailers pin holes are about 1/8" out of alignment.
Nothing is easy.
I don’t have any of the Atlas either. Not knowing if the trailer wheel base and the size of the pin for the stanchion were the same or not I am hesitant to buy any of the Atlas trucks. [D)]
