ATSF 2486

Hello All! I purchased a CF 7 About two years ago with the intent on using it on my small switching layout, i recently how ever desided to take on the task of building a layout in my dorm room, with that also learning how to weather. I have done a few cars do date, but this is my first engine. After doing a google search for ATSF 2486 (sorry if i get that number wrong im at work atm) i only came up with one image that didnt give any good views what so ever. I was wondering if anyone has ever caught this baby up close, or if they would have a good picture of it for reference.

Somewhere I have pictures of CF7’s in the Cleburne “dead line” in the mid 80’s; ATSF was retiring them, shopping them, and then trading them in and/or selling them. They were immaculate.

I have also seen CF7’s that were absolutely filthy.

I don’t have ready access to the pictures or a scanner, but I’ll see what I can do this weekend.

After doing some more research today i managed to find one picture and your correct when you say filthy…

First link is of CF7 2586. The second link has more CF7s including 2480.

Hope these help,

Russell

Don’t know if it will help, but I believe at least one “Santa Fe” CF-7 is still in service.

It’s on the LA Junction Railway which is now owned by BNSF. The unit looks pretty

clean, and is painted in the Blue/Yellow Warbonnet scheme.

Thank you for the links to the photos, only one of which however worked (no big loss the first link has a lot of good images). It gives me a good place to start from.

LAJ had four CF7. Three transferred out for auction some weeks ago. The remaining engine is in very poor condition. It could not run in a train and is still at the A yard in Vernon.

Here is a photo taken some weeks ago over the fence.
