Does anyone out there know the lettering style (font) used by The Santa Fe railway for steam engines
prior to 1920? I can’t find any appropriate lettering in gold so am considering trying to make my own.

Gold? I didn’t know Santa Fe used gold lettering on steam locomotives circa 1900-1920…
I can’t immediately find my Santa Fe paint and Lettering Guide. Hope I find it before long.
I have seen the gold lettering on several model engines of different scales but I don’t know if it is
prototype. Just thought it looked good on the ones I have seen. If you locate your lettering guide
I would still appreciate knowing the style type.
Thanks
The lettering is close to Railroad Roman.
Here are some free railroad roman fonts:
Not 100% sure of the font used during the timeline you posted, 1900-1920. But I did find this online photo of locomotive #53 taken in 1899 of the California Limited and the font looks like Railroad Roman to me:
I can’t tell what color the lettering is on #53, but in the “modern era”, Santa Fe steam engines used silver or white colored letters, not gold.
Microscale has some nice decal sets for Santa Fe steam locomotives:
Microscale 87-64 (Silver)
Microscale 87-363 (Silver)
Many, Many Thanks. I’ll download these and give them a try. They are exactly
what I was looking for.
