ATSF MR project layout

Hi, as I explained in 2 previous posts I lost (had stolen) my entire model and magazine collecion and have spent the last few months trying to locate certain articles and have been quite successful (thanks to MR staff and this forum plus the WWW) This is the last article I am after it was one of MR’s project layouts if memory serves me correctly and it was based on the ATSF and I would say printed around the late 70’s possibly early 80’s. I also think it made it in to one of the MR books on layouts you can build type books?
Any help in locating the issue would be appreciated.

Can you give more details?

Also, have you searched the MR articles database?

I was looking through the MR magazine archives and these were the only two I could find in the 1970s-1980s range. More information on what you’re looking for would help a lot.

My Santa Fe Argentine Division - shelf around room
Model Railroader, December 1983 page 72 HO scale

Santa Fe Silsbee District in N scale
Model Railroader, June 1984 page 102 N scale
Article also published in 48 Top Notch Track Plans from Model Railroader

I hope this helps!

Hi, tried the database and as I don’t know the name and only using ATSF 1000’s of articles came back. The only other thing I remember was in one of the later articles they built a Gravel industry as a lineside industry.
Thanks for looking

Do you have any idea what scale it is?

I have managed to find it, as I remember the Gravel industry was built by the late Gordon Odegard and I have managed to find it that way it was called “Washita & Santa Fe” If anyone has a copy could they let me know the overall dimension of the layout before I spend a fortune on buying the back issues, got to see if it will fit in my measly space.

A quick Google shows:

http://www.hobbylinc.com/htm/kal/kal12131.htm

but they say the W&SF is 4 feet by 8 feet. Couldn’t tell you if you could downsize it.

Thanks, I have 12’x24’ and was planing on using bits of it as a project for my son to incorporate in to my layout

Shaun

The complete W&SF plan measures 13x24 feet. The articles describe building “Phase I,” which is 7’9" by 13’.

Hi, and thanks I guess I will have to loose 12" somewhere. As it’s no longer available from Kalmbach I’ve just found it on ebay it’s just the shipping from the US thats the killer ($77).

Shaun

There’s GOT to be a cheaper way to get it than that. How about ordering copies of the articles (photocopied) from Kalmbach at $5 each, postpaid?

Hi, I have contacted MR and as I live overseas it was going to cost $15 plus some change. The auction I’m bidding on is for 4 years (48 issues) so it’s not too bad plus the $/£ exchange rate is really good at the moment. I had difficulty in locating just 1984 and I could only get them as a bundle. If I win it will take another 8 weeks to get here. I was even thinking about having them sent to family in the US and have them airmail them to me a few at a time, just enough to keep me going.
