ATSF Vintage Calendars

Hello,

I recently came across a few calendar lithographs on cardstock from 1928-1932. I’ve searched all over the net and can’t find much information, except for the artist, I.E. Couse, who was a respected painter of Native American Culture. Do any of you have any info on this era of the Santa Fe Calendars? I’d be willing to post scans of them if anyone is interested… Check my .sig file to see what I’m talking about. I’d like to know more history on these fine pieces.

Thanks for the help,

Ryebot

ps- I’ve already checked the Santa Fe Historical and Modelling Society, but I couldn’t directly find any info: http://www.atsfrr.com

That’s interesting. I can’t assist with knowledge of ATSF calendars, but it seems that

Native American motifs were very popular with Western railroads at that time. The

Great Northern Railway also commissioned calendars of that nature featuring portraits

of blackfoot Indian Tribe members by noted artist Winold Reiss. There’s quite a bit

of information available on his work. Sorry I can’t be of more help.

Ryebot,

Even though the SFRH&MS doesn’t have any direct information on the calendars, you might try emailing the webmaster for whom would be a good resource.

Good luck,

Russell
