Att. Santa Fe fans: where was this picture taken? (solved)

On my old laptop I had this picture but I lost the information on where it was.

It looks as if this is on the Santa Fe, but where? And is that an interstate motorway that passes under the railroad?

Is there still a railroad in this place?

Thanks for your help in locating where this was.

greetings,

Anyone recognise the city skyline in the background from back in the 80s? That could be a big clue to the location.

Two GUESSES!! and a third possibility

South of Wichita with I-35 (Kansas Turnpike) crossing under from the east side to the west. Shadows would indicate train is southbound in late afternoon.

South of Fort Worth, again with I-35W passing under southbound train on its way to Houston.

North of Tulsa with a northbound train, photo taken in the early AM with Cherokee Expressway (US 75) passing under.

I can only state the obvious:

  1. Definitely not Chicago area

  2. Definitely not desert so that rules out the southwest

  3. I suspect somewhere fairly flat from the topography and think the Oklahoma, Kansas, Texas area is a pretty good guess based on the greeness of the picture

Beyond that I can’t help. What was the source of the picture? Surely whoever posted it originally should know where it was taken.

This is a northbound train leaving Oklahoma City- we’re on the immediate north side of town by Topping Park, the road that passes under the train is Interstate 235/ US 77 (the Broadway Extension Highway), the road seen merging at the right is the onramp from NW 50th Street (the photographer is standing on the NW 50th Street overpass).

This track is still in today and used by the BNSF as part of their Red Rock Subdivision.

I agree…just drove under it last summer in fact…

Thanks Nordique72 and Edblysard for solving this little problem for me. Had lost my notes on the picture and never got the location right anyway. Now that I know the exact location it will be a lot easier to transfer that picture into a N-scale module.

Thanks again,

greetings
