Attaching Walther's Bridge Track to Bridge Issues

I’m in the process of building Walther’s Double Track Truss Bridge. Problem is I’ve tried to attach the Bridge Track to the Bridge but the Cyanacrylate does not want to grip the ties as they are made of a material that does not want to bond. Any other suggestions? Would Walther’s “Goo” be a suitable alternative?

Goo and Goop, even some acrylic latex caulk, say the DAP Alex Plus would probably work.

It might be smart to scuff up the tops of the stringers with 120 grit sand paper if CA doesn’t want to hold. Same for the underside of the ties.

Have you tried Ambroid or something like it?

Use Phenoseal. It’s an acrylic latex caulking compound sold in tubes for caulking guns. Home Despot, Lowes, and your local hardware store carry it. I used it to stick bridge track down on a styrene bridge and it works fine. Sticks well to the tie strip, sticks to the styrene, dries clear so squeeze outs don’t show much. $4 a tube. Weight the track down while the caulk hardens, say overnight, to prevent the track from moving while the caulk is soft.

Actually I’d bet that any acrylic latex caulk will work. DAP makes it for $2.50 a tube. But I had such good luck with Phenoseal that I am willing to pay a tad extra for it.

CA, superglue, dries brittle, no give to it, so when the track flexes (it is called flextrack after all) the brittle glue breaks. The acrylic caulk stays a little bit soft and gives with the flextrack.

I use the caulk on foamboard, and for sticking down roadbed. Good stuff.

For projects such as this, I’ve found that Pliobond rubber cement works great. It’s not as “stringy” as Goo or contact cement. Dries to a slight translucent amber color so that any excess just needs a touch of weathering and flat finish to take away any shine. CA isn’t that great for this and it only would provide a brittle bond, the Pliobond is like the name, extremely pliable. CA does fine for securing the guard rails

This ME viaduct and the ME bridge flex was attached w/ the Pliobond. I also had to start super elevation part way into the bridge.

I would suggest sanding off the tie bottoms to clean off some of the CA build up, sounds like you may have tried to glue it a couple times. Bridge girders may need cleaning up too.

I applied w/ a small foam brush, placed track, lifted to check contact and placed and weighted overnight.
