Surgical consult went well yesterday, scheduled for 9/5. Wish it were sooner but no luck there. If anyone tells you that a hernia is nothing they are full of meadow muffins.
Lionroar, Ours is closing in on 50, but she is still my baby girl. Be careful during the Turks & Cacos vacation. What used to be a pretty much crime free area has seen a rather large increase in armed robbery at some of the hi$ beach home rental areas.
Rich, Ever miss the festivities of bike week at Daytona ? Not to mention some of the eye-candy, motorcycle speaking of course. [;)]
Going stir crazy here at home, need to get back to the museum. But it is still a nono, looking into a truss that might alleviate some of the hazard but allow me to go on a limited basis.
Survived our second trip to downtown Boston. Saw the Aquarium and went on the Duck tour. Long day. Weather was good. Going to Portland, Maine tomorrrow to a 2 foot railroad museum. I hope everyone has a good day.
Been a while - guess my last post was in late June. Since then, we spent a week at our Michigan house.
My nephew and his family came up on July 4th. Had fun with our grand nephew - he is 3. We cooked both lunch and dinner outside in the fire circle. He asked why we don’t cook inside. Also took him for a short canoe ride too. He was not too sure to begin with, but he did relax and enjoyed the ride.
Got the horse shoe pits installed again up north. My wife’s cousin was helping me. When we got them finished, we had to see if they worked. Keep in mind, he is 70 and I am 61. Neither one of us has thrown shoes for at least 10 years. We were pitching the shoes back and forth for about 20 minutes - the score would have been something like 6 to 2 if we were keeping it - when we realized that horse shoes were pretty good ‘old guy’ exercise. All that walking and bending. We finally decides we’d quit when one of us got a ringer. I finally rolled one on the stake probably 15 minutes later.
Not much going on the train front. Been doing house chores and hiding from the heat.
Mornin’ boys. I’m in a fog. No, really, it’s foggy on Knobley right now. Grandson getting his “big train” ride today.
Roy - the yatchett is on the hard. Bothers me, but no time to go sailing. Wifey would rather rent a speed boat up at Deep Creek these days. October is our bussiest time at WMSR, so maybe YORK in the spring.
88 - Hershey was always a fun trip for the kids, and the drive wasn’t a killer.
Doug - We are staying on The Beaches resort. No way I would ever rent someone’s home on an island. Those have always had crime (we are just now starting to hear more about it in the US Media). A guy I used to work with owns a beach house in Costa Rica, he told me the first couple years people would break in an gut the home. Then he took some drastic measures and built a wall around the property and had a automated gate installed, built keepers houses for the security guard, mai
Morning all. Going to be hot and humid today. Not as hot as a couple weeks ago. Tomorrow humidity low.
Construction going good. Found out I was right about HVAC. Kept telling contractor that one we had was OK. He said HVAC man said we needed to add a little one for the rooms. Seems they rechecked yesterday while I as getting hand cut on. Is adequate. Money saved.
Some not so good news. Seems Rheumatologist did some unusual blood tests. Found I have a very rare blood disease. Don’t know what causes it. Start chemo tablets tomorrow evening. Will probably take for two years. Seems we caught it before it did damages. She thinks this will work.
Get well soon! Keep that leg elevated. Last time I got stung in the ankle it was a swarm of bumblebees came out of the ground where I was weed wacking. OW!
I can’t sign for any plans until I get my card. So waiting for that.
Taking your advice and looking at Part D with an entity (I.e. CVS, Walmart, Walgreens, etc.) that has nationwide presence (or at least as many places as we tend to travel) since we travel a bit. We have an insurance friend my wife has done work for many years (CPA) that is going to help on the Medicare advantage (as it is called here). So in October I should be all set (fingers crossed).
I got my card early because I was already drawing my SS Roy. I did not go with the Medicare advantage plan, they cover all three needs but can restrict where you go. I went with BCBS plan F, Humana Walmart for plan D Meds, MetLife for dental, and VPS for vision. It seemed to work for us and will let us go any place we want and not worry about coverage.
I’m sure I missed something (because that’s completely normal for me [(-D]) but yes, the Titanic did have a pool:
It wasn’t like you might think however. It was actually part of the Turkish Baths and not open to passengers otherwise. It was filled with heated salt water and the idea was you were supposed to wash off the sweat you just created after sitting in a small box lined with hot light bulbs. It’s actual title was “Swimming Bath” on the plans and diagrams. Ironicly because the room was watertight in it’s own right, it was one of the last compartments on the ship to flood.
Don, belated happy birthday to you. I haven’t been on the Iowa yet. I’m still trying to get over swollen feet and ankles I think caused by side effects of BP Meds. Went to doc yesterday. He sent my for a complete blood test yesterday and a scan of my legs today to rule out blood clots. I can barely get an old pair of tennis shoes on. Had to cancel the TTOS picnic tomorrow because I can’nt walk far or stand long. I’m also on anti biotics. Have a good week end.
Would have been a great day seeing the 2 foot railroad except for going 6 miles in 1.5 hours on the return trip. One of these days we will have a trip with no drama. The really sad part was seeing the backup on I-95 North with no apparent cause except for the massive amount of traffic. I could not live in such a high population area. Ugh. Weather still good. I hope everyone has a good day.
What happened was my family went to visit the USS Iowa last weekend. During our tour it was pointed out that the Iowa is the only ship in the US Navy that had a bathtub on board. As mentioned above it was installed in anticipation of President Roosevelt accepting the surrender from Japan. Obviously that did not happen, and the surrender was done aboard the Missouri instead of the Iowa. (From what I understand the Missouri was used in tribute to the fallen President as it was the namesake for his home state.)
On our way home my son says, “Hey Dad, do you realize that even though the ship sank over a 100 years ago, there is STILL water in the swimming pool !”
So I posted both of the statements and the comments ensued. Ironically I’m not sure everyone realized the Titanic statement started was a silly joke. “Now you know the rest of the story.”
Ray, sorry to hear your not going to the picnic, we are not going to make it either, some good friends are moving to Reno, and there coming over for a BBQ.
Mornin’ boys. Sunny & 64 along the Patterson Creek cut-off. Gonna be a bachelor man for 3 days, as gals are all leaving for Baltimore for family gathering and doctor/dentist appts.
Grandson really liked his train ride, especially getting to ride the turntable with GP30 #501. He kinda hung close to me last night when I got home.
The shop crew is repainting our stainless steel cars in the WESTERN MARYLAND red-white-black speedlettering scheme. So far they’ve turned out the Cumberland,Mountain View, and Frostburg. They look marvelous.
Can’t seem to find my BBQ invite; best go check the box again…
