Is it early this month? I wasn’t expecting it but it’s hereeeeee.
Don’t have mine yet although I usually get it pretty early. Just looked at the online preview and it looks like there will be several articles of interest to me, especially the N-scale double deck track plan for the Norfolk Southern B-line in northern Virginia. Jamie
So, are we going to discuss the content of the issue, or will this be another monthly “I got mine, did you get yours?” thread?
By the way, I got mine today. Love that Pennsy layout.
Oh, I don’t mind if there is a discussion. But golly, wouldn’t it be nice if there was a little courtesy and said discussion didn’t start until everyone had the opportunity to get their issue in the mail?
Agreed. Just noting that it seems early this month. Content is good but you’ll have to read it for yourself. [:D]
It came today and I was surprised it got here so fast. Usually it can be up to 2 weeks after they change the banner and it seamed like they just changed the banner. The west cost folks aren’t as bad as those over seas folks but the hoopla on the forum is usually over by the time I get it.
I was also impressed with a quick look at the articles for this month!
Just in time for tomorrow’s cross country flight!
GOOD JOB GUYS!!! [tup]

Mine always arrives on the 1st of the month with my TRAINS magazine. TRAINS came today {the 1st} right on the dot. MRR did not, but then again I didn’t renew it this year.
Not to discuss the actual article content, but in the new products section I just noticed they say Atlas will be releasing N-scale GP30/35 locomotives WITH SOUND later this year? Have I been spending THAT much time on the layout away from the forums? Heading over to Atlas now to see if this is legit…

Gee, it’s not like giving away the ending to a movie someone hasn’t seen yet, or the score to a game that someone has TIVO’d and not watched yet.

NOPE…haven’t got it as yet!!

Well…it arrived today, 7/3. Kinda late this issue!
I have to say the wait was more exciting than the actual issue! I guess the staff was getting in the holiday mood and let the mag just slip through. Maybe next month will be a little more exciting for me. Even Tony’s page was sorta lame.
The best part was the Spectrum 2-6-6-2 review!
My 2¢,
Roger Huber
The review of the 2-6-6-2 had been on the web page since June. It is under the subscribers section. The review is lacking. You would think the new Soundtraxx/Bachmann Tsunami decoder would be mentioned, it was not. Makes one think that it is not that good a decoder.
Is it possible that Soundtraxx makes different Tsunamis for regular sales and manufacturers? I have several of the Tsunamis installed and think they are the best sound available compared to the others I’ve heard. I have also read on different sites complaints about the Bachmann Tsunami engines. I know sound is a personal thing but people seem to have issues with the Bachmann version.
MR says more in their reviews by what they DON’T SAY than with what they do.

I usually get mine the very end of each month here on the West coast. I’ve never commented on an issue before but… I agree that the content was extremely dull this month. A lot of material similar to the track special issue of only a couple of months ago and what can be found in Kalmbach’s “how to” books. The Pennsy layout was the only highlight for me. Maybe a good issue for a total beginner who doesn’t even know about the books… . Surely there were a couple of deserving layout features or scratch building plans or more exciting and even useful articles in the cabinet waiting to be published.
It has always seemed strange to me that the MR folks always say they don’t get enough articles sent in to keep a steady pace of interesting things to read so they bomb us with “foreplay” for up coming How To Do It books.
Over the years there have been many folks who have complained about rejected manuscripts including me. Why can’t the MR folks work with some of these people to make their articles “suitable” for the readers? I would rather see something new than rehashed past MR articles by Gordy and ghosts of the past! Nothing against Gordy or the other previous pioneers.
With all the interest in operations wouldn’t a rehash of the operations articles by Frank Ellison be welcome? Maybe one of the famous HTDI books? Dated photos and also his railroad but the man had great ideas for ops and I’m sure many younger readers would find his point of view interesting.
It seems the best way to get an article published in MR is to have already been one of their chosen people. Remember the Furlow years? Yuk! Give others a chance too.
Articles now seem to be centered on selling what Walthers is producing . Maybe developing articles to help incorporate these new structures is helpful but it seems much to much like back scratching to me.
As to the HTDI books, how about some fresh photos and information. As a long time subscriber I find it offensive to buy a very expensive book that is just a collection of past MR articles or uses nothing but previously published file photos. Isn’t there anything unused in the files?
My 2¢,
Roger Huber
Gee Wiz folks, I could have made you all jealous if I had started this post. I received mine just about right on time. Tuesday, June 29/10. [(-D] I usually get it during the last week of the month except for around Christmas/New Years which is understandable.
Blue Flamer.
Mine came on July 2nd. A very weak issue. Not much of anything held my attention or makes me want to keep it for reference. This is the first issue in quite some time that I feel this way about.
[:-^]
I’m with you Jumijo.
Only 94 pages in total and over a third of them just advertisements. I am really against paying for ads.
I have MR from the past that was twice this size and I believe more usable information.
Just getting a little tired of some of the wash here.
There was a couple of good articles, but two articles do not a make magazine.
Johnboy out …for now.
I got mine. Did you get yours? [zzz]
